On the lonian coast, from Capo Sant'Alessio to the north of the outlet of the Alcantara river, Sant’Alessio Siculo extends along the eastern Sicilian trunk road between the Messina-Syracuse railway line and the coast. It originated near the cape, called Arghennon by the Greeks and it expanded around a Norman castle. It had various lords, the last being the Paternò Castello family. The commune was created in 1948, when the territory was separated from that of Forza d'Agrò. The inhabitants are given over to fishing and agriculture. Summer tourism is also very active.
